Rehabilitation is an essential post-surgical programme to re-establish joint motion, strength and function. It may be necessary after a wide variety of procedures, including orthopaedic, cardiac, thoracic and neurological surgery.
Surgery brings a number of post-operative consequences that can be managed with a customised exercise programme. Because we practise inside hospitals, post-surgical rehabilitation with us starts in the ICU and continues until functional independence, rather than beginning at an outpatient clinic weeks later.
After shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand surgery we work inside the operating surgeon’s own clinic and to the protocol for the procedure that was actually performed, because upper limb surgery succeeds or fails largely on the twelve weeks afterwards. Move too early and the repair is at risk; move too late and the joint stiffens.
